Technical Specialist, Aircraft Systems (Dash 8-400)
Job Description:

The Technical Specialist – PBH Programs (Dash 8-400) provides technical leadership and in-service component oversite for fleets enrolled in Power-by-the-Hour (PBH) contracts. With a focus on Hydro Mechanical, Propulsion and Air systems components of the De Havilland Dash 8-400 platform, this role ensures contractual alignment, fleet reliability, and cost control through detailed technical oversight. The position serves as the bridge between customer operations, repair vendors, engineering, and internal program stakeholders to ensure program performance and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Fault Validation & Repair Review:
  • Review aircraft-level fault reports for removed components and validate alignment with shop findings.
  • Assess and challenge repair categorization (e.g., minor, major, overhaul) to ensure it aligns with De Havilland Component Solutions (DCS) program definitions and cost structures.
  • Cost Control & CID Verification:
  • Audit Component Induced Damage (CID) charges for accuracy. Flag charges unrelated to customer operations and work directly with customers to review and minimize CID costs where applicable.
  • Monitor and challenge unnecessary or misclassified charges from repair vendors to protect program margins.
  • Reliability & Issue Tracking:
  • Identify and track in-service issues, including reliability trends, recurring removals, ensure recommended technical corrections (SB’s, Mods etc) are showing improved reliability.
  • Maintain regular communication with the DCS and In Service Engineering teams regarding emerging technical risks, supplier issues, and performance degradation.
  • Customer & Program Reviews:
  • Support technical input and analysis for new customer onboardings and customer-specific PBH program reviews.
  • Contribute to performance briefings, fleet health assessments, and program improvement initiatives.
  • PMA & Alternate Part Evaluations:
  • Review and evaluate FAA-approved PMA or alternate parts solutions in coordination with Fokker or other third-party providers, ensuring suitability, quality, and commercial benefit.
  • Working with Maintenance Data, In Service Engineering and DCS, maintain oversite of PMA, DER and alternate parts solutions on the fleet.
  • Supplier & MRO Engagement:
  • Collaborate with repair vendors and suppliers to ensure component issues are resolved efficiently and in accordance with OEM requirements.
  • Participate in key supplier discussions related to part performance, turnaround time, or cost recovery efforts.

Qualifications:

  • Degree or diploma in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering, Aircraft Maintenance, or a related technical discipline.
  • 3–5+ years of experience in afterspanet support, maintenance, repair management, or reliability engineering—ideally with regional aircraft.
  • Hands-on knowledge of the Dash 8-400 platform, systems, and component-level operations.
  • Familiarity with power-by-the-hour contracts, cost-per-flight-hour programs, or similar support models.
  • Strong working knowledge of maintenance records, fault isolation, and shop report review processes.
  • Understanding of repair classifications and FAA/EASA guidelines (e.g., PMA, BER, SB/AD incorporation).
  • Experience using maintenance tracking tools such as AMOS, RAMCO, TRAX or equivalent.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite including Excel and data analysis tools.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in a customer-facing or contract support role.
  • Familiarity with DHC afterspanet programs and component support agreements.
  • Exposure to third-party MRO operations or repair shop management.
  • Ability to interpret Illustrated Parts Catalogs (IPC), Component Maintenance Manuals (CMMs), and OEM technical publications.
