Job overview and responsibilities
This operational support and project leader position is designed to leverage the candidate’s knowledge of United’s Best Practices, tools, and processes within the Digital Technology – Field Services organization. The successful candidate will possess the ability to lead and mentor junior Engineers and contractors as needed.
The role is responsible for managing all logistical aspects of medium to large-sized projects, helping coordinate project and resource plans, training of airport staff, and ensuring functionality and quality of the delivered solution. They will oversee projects such as end point devices and critical infrastructure platforms, mobility platforms, and infrastructure activities that comply with United’s IT critical infrastructure standards. This role is responsible for managing the tactical day to day activities such as the Service Ticket and IMAC Queues. In addition, this role will handle escalations from vendor staff as well as end users. The role will include interfacing between Field Services and internal & external business partners and vendors.
Additionally, the Sr. Systems Engineer will work in tandem with the Principal Engineer and Sr. Manager to pinpoint and implement training opportunities for the region’s Engineers and will act as a guiding figure within the team. They will also engage with colleagues across the organization to contribute to initiatives and address complex challenges.
The Sr. Systems Engineer will serve as the backup to the Principal Engineer and will represent Field Services as needed in the event the Principal Engineer is attending to other responsibilities.
The ideal candidate will excel in executing detailed plans, managing day-to-day operations, and ensuring the seamless implementation of strategies. Their primary responsibility will be to focus on the practical aspects of achieving objectives, addressing immediate challenges, and delivering measurable results efficiently.
- Define project objectives, develop detailed delivery plans, schedules, resource plans, and status reports in partnership with the Principal Engineer
- Monitor, manage, and schedule resources to deliver the daily activities in the HUB for the digital technology supported and deployed by Field Service Delivery
- Provide on-site, and on-call 7x24x365 support, as needed
- Coordinate activities with internal/external technology owners/service providers
- Plan and implement life cycle management of software and hardware
- Understand technical/business requirements gathered from the business unit
- Act as a subject matter expert and provide leadership from a technical and professional standpoint for the team
- Configure, install, maintain, test, and troubleshoot hardware systems
QualificationsWhat’s needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):- Bachelors degree or related experience
- Computer Science, IT, or a related field
- 4+ years of relevant experience
- Strong verbal and written communication skills

The base pay range for this role is $109,820.00 to $149,600.00.
The base salary range/hourly rate listed is dependent on job-related, non-discriminatory factors such as experience, education, and skills. This position is also eligible for bonus and/or long-term incentive compensation awards.
