Position Summary
This role supports manufacturing engineering activities at MSDI’s Mumbai site (Pumps, Valves, Industrial HPUs), ensuring robust industrialization, efficient production processes, and continuous improvement in safety, quality, delivery, and cost performance.
Responsibilities
EHS / Safety & Ergonomics
- Promote a strong EHS culture and ensure safe process design (risk assessments, LOTO input, machine guarding).
- Enhance ergonomics and reduce operator risk through workstation design and standardization.
- Responsible for manufacturing engineering standards, documentation, and governance all products manufactured from the location.
- Support new product introduction (NPD) and product/process industrialization from concept through SOP.
- Define manufacturing routing, cycle time targets, line balancing, and capacity plans.
- Support PFMEA, control plans, work instructions, and validation plans.
- Partner with Division Engineering team on DFM/DFA and engineering change implementation.
- Deliver productivity improvements using Lean tools (VSM, Kaizen, 5S, SMED, standard work).
- Reduce scrap, rework, and downtime through structured problem-solving (8D, A3, RCA).
- Improve OEE, yield, throughput and labour efficiency; track savings and sustain results.
- Support production transfers, line expansions and introduction of new equipment/automation.
- Specify, justify and implement manufacturing equipment, tooling, fixtures and test systems.
- Partner with maintenance and suppliers on installation, commissioning and ramp-up.
- Ensure machine capability studies, preventive maintenance inputs and spare strategy alignment.
Manufacturing Engineering Governance & Standards
New Product Introduction (NPI) / Industrialization
Process Excellence, Productivity & Continuous Improvement (Lean)
Equipment, Tooling, Automation & Ramp-up
Engage suppliers for tooling/equipment and ensure technical alignment and acceptance criteria
Quality Systems, Compliance & Measurement
- Ensure processes meet customer and regulatory requirements (e.g., ISO 9001/IATF principles where applicable).
- Drive process capability (Cp/Cpk), gauge strategy and measurement system improvements.
- Support internal/external audits; ensure traceability, documentation accuracy and change control.
Cross-functional Operations Alignment (Delivery/TAKT/Inventory)
Coordinate with production, planning and supply chain to meet TAKT, inventory and delivery goals.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES :
Safety Incident reduction, risk mitigation and closure rate
Work on Plant and Equipment requirements and ensure that the project is completed on time.
Ensuring that new products and processes are properly developed for production readiness.
Compute required amounts of labor and materials, manufacturing costs and benefits costs.
FPY, scrap/rework reduction, Cp/Cpk improvement, customer complaints/PPM reduction.
Managing and ensuring smooth transition from development to production.
Develop and improve processes to reduce rejection and scrap to increase profitability.
Coordinate with Engineering on all functional test requirements of existing and new products. Assure that customers receive a product that meets the drawing and quality specifications.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, or related field (Master’s preferred).
7–8 years’ experience in manufacturing engineering/process engineering, process planning, with exposure to tools, jigs/fixtures design, GD&T.
Good Knowledge in Hydraulic systems and Machine tools.
Proven experience in industrialization, process optimization, and leading technical teams in production environments.
Strong knowledge of Lean manufacturing, structured problem solving, and manufacturing documentation systems.
Experience in Internal audits, ISO, SPC, TPM, 5S
Exposure to assembly lines, testing with productivity and quality
Experience in machining of castings, assembly activities, torque systems
Preferred experience in any one of the following: Knowledge of hydraulics, test sequences, PLC programming, interfacing, Labview or similar.
