Duty Station Manager - Drive Operational Excellence at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol

What will you do

As our Duty Station Manager, you will play a critical role in ensuring safe, efficient, and on-time airport operations in Schiphol. You will be responsible for supervising ground handling operations, coordinating with internal and external stakeholders, and driving performance to meet SAS high standards. In this role, youll be at the frontline of our operation, solving problems, optimizing processes, and delivering top-notch service to our passengers.

In this exciting and dynamic role, you will oversee airport operations for Schiphol, a strategically important airport for SAS and our Skyteam partners. You will tackle the challenge of ensuring punctuality and safety for over 6.000 annual departures. As the main point of contact at the airport, you will work closely with ground handling partners, subcontractors, airport authorities, and regulatory bodies to optimize daily operations and solve issues efficiently. Your ability to collaborate and lead by example will be key to maintaining high standards.

Together, we are responsible for more than 6.000 departures per annum. This is your opportunity to have an individual impact on helping thousands of passengers reach their destinations safely and on time.

In this role you will report to the Station Manager Netherlands and Head of Regional Line Stations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensuring safe and punctual operations in Schiphol
  • Closely monitoring daily operations, including extra, ad-hoc, and charter flights
  • Managing and negotiating with third parties and subcontractors in the event of non-performance
  • Securing continuous updates of local procedures, coordinating operational procedures and issues between SAS and subcontractors
  • Checking and validating invoices, identifying any inconsistencies or errors
  • Overseeing station performance and reporting, including daily, weekly, monthly, and historical performance metrics
  • Continuously recommending and implementing new processes to improve performance, reduce costs, and increase efficiency
  • Acting as Emergency Response Coordinator when required
  • Ensuring compliance with SAS performance standards and all applicable regulatory requirements
  • Liaising with Airport Authorities and other airline partners to explore methods for continuous operational improvement

You will be part of a high-performing, close-knit team within SAS Global Line Stations, under the Ground Operations division. Our team values collaboration, operational excellence, and proactive problem-solving. We work together to deliver safe, efficient, and customer-focused airport services while driving continuous improvement.

To be successful, we believe you have:
  • Extensive experience in Airport Operations with a strong desire to continue growing your career
  • Solid understanding of SMS (Safety Management Systems) and quality systems
  • Broad knowledge of regulations, laws, and industry agreements, including IATA SGHA and SLAs
  • Familiarity with Altea DCS and proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Strong financial acumen and experience with budget monitoring
  • Excellent English communication skills, both spoken and written

It is also advantageous if you have previous experience in a leadership or managerial role.
